SUMMARY:Fueling Collaboration 3.0: Fire and Water
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Fueling Collaboration 3.0 team of partners from the eastern US Fire Science Exchange Networks and the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station and Southern Research Station. Fueling Collaboration is a series of interactive panel discussions designed to connect fire managers and researchers. Each discussion will be built on questions from the registered attendees. The Fueling Collaboration 3.0 Team are working to bring people together to discuss\, explore\, and address the latest fire science and fire management issues across the eastern United States.More info here. \nFire and Water \nDescription: The changing climate is reshaping the balance of fire and water in eastern ecosystems. Drought alters soil structure and stability; combined with intense rainfall\, this impacts hydrologic dynamics. This panel will explore the interconnections between fire\, nutrient cycling\, ecohydrology\, and climate change. \nPanel Moderated by: Stephanie Laseter\, USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station \nPanelists:\nSteven Brantly\, Ph.D.\, Joseph W. Jones Center at Ichauway\nKathy Hawes\, MBA\, Southeastern Partnership for Forests and Water\nRandy Kolka\, Ph.D.\, USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station\nJames Vose\, Ph.D.\, USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station \nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:Partner Webinar: How States Can Better Budget for Wildfires
DESCRIPTION:Government officials and Pew experts will discuss key issues and findings from a new report \nDecember 15\, 2022 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM ET \nHosted by: The PEW Charitable Trusts \nOn Thursday\, Dec. 15\, The Pew Charitable Trusts will host leaders from federal and state agencies to deliver perspectives on the growing burden of wildfires on state budgets. The expert panel will build on the key findings and recommendations from a forthcoming Pew study\, “Wildfires: Burning Through State Budgets.” \nWildfires in the United States have become more catastrophic and expensive in recent years\, with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Forest Service nearly doubling their combined spending on wildfire management in the past decade. As more frequent and severe fires drive up public spending\, policymakers at all levels of government are faced with decisions about how to pay for the diverse array of interventions required to deal with them. \nDuring this event\, practitioners from state forestry and budget agencies\, as well as federal partners\, will detail their experiences and provide insights on challenges and promising practices in addressing budgeting issues related to wildfire management. \nFor more information about this event\, please contact Jimmy Einsiedler at jeinsiedler@pewtrusts.org. \nRegistration Required.
