SUMMARY:Workshop: How to optimize fire education courses for a virtual environment
DESCRIPTION:In a pandemic environment\, remote learning is becoming a necessity for NWCG (National Wildfire Coordinating Group) courses. To help keep firefighters fireline-ready\, instructors need to adapt traditionally in-person courses for non-traditional classrooms. This training will be co-instructed by North Atlantic Fire Science Exchange Network communications and education specialists and Northeastern Forest Fire Protection Compact training working team members with decades of experience in fireline instruction. This workshop will give fireline course instructors the tools they need to confidently and independently apply best practices to teach traditionally in-person courses in a digital environment. \nThis training will include:\n– Fundamentals of virtual teaching and learning\n– Adaptations and best practices for fireline teaching\n– Practice preparing and implementing a lesson plan in the virtual environment \nWorried about being on Zoom for a few hours? Don’t be! We have strategically placed breaks included in the agenda. In addition\, this is an interactive training – we expect all participants to fully dive in and generate ideas so they can walk away with an action plan. While we understand that distractions sometimes come up\, we will ask everyone to model engaged student behaviors. Participants will be expected to use video and audio to interact with the workshop instructors and in small groups. \nREGISTER HERE \nPlease note that the following pre-reading is required in order to fully participate in the workshop:\n– Pre-course Materials (read linked articles as applicable)\n– Instructor checklist\n– Student checklist

SUMMARY:Agriculture and Land Use Virtual Workshop: NOAA GEO-XO Satellite Program
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is designed for members of the Agriculture sector community who use NOAA’s remote sensing data in the agriculture cycle\, during extreme weather events\, agriculture and animal management. There will be workshop opportunities for end-users in the fields of oceans and transportation in the coming months. \nThe purpose of this workshop is to gather feedback on NOAA’s environmental satellite data products through structured discussion. These User Needs will be used to inform the remote sensing capabilities of NOAA’s next generation of environmental satellites\, the GEO-XO program. Participants should join the workshop prepared to contribute to a facilitated discussion. \nPlease contact Vanessa Escobar\, Lead Scientist for GEO-XO User Engagement at vanessa.escobar@noaa.gov. \nRegistration is required.
