The Air Force Wildland Fire Branch (CZOF) has an exciting job opportunity at HQ/ Joint Base San Antonio, TX. This position, Supervisory Operations Section Chief, GS-0401/0460/0819/1301-13, is advertised with PCS costs covered.
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing interagency wildland fire field operations and providing expertise in wildland fire management and mitigation to support the execution of field work across 3 regions at 14 Wildland Support Modules (WSMs) in CONUS and Alaska. There are frequent opportunities to provide strategic program analysis and decision making while maintaining relationships with internal organizations including DAF Corporate structure, MAJCOMs, ISSs, OSD, AFCEC and federal land management agencies. This position requires occasional travel in support of the 14 WSMs and their operations.
This position reports to the Branch Chief of the Wildland Fire Branch in the Environmental Operations Division within the Environmental Directorate of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center.
The Wildland Fire Branch was established in 2012 to supplement wildfire response, provide training, maintain certification, conduct program review, and provide technical assistance to all Air Force installations. The Branch mission is executed in a collaborative, interagency environment with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Colorado State University and University of Montana. FY21 Operations achieved over 175,000 acres of prescribed fire and 3,000 acres of mechanical fuel mitigation and environmental projects to promote sustainable environmental management and protection of natural and built infrastructure and ecosystems.
