Continue ReadingThe 2020 refresher will highlight the scope of prescribed fire, the cooperation, and the relationships of the prescribed fire community in the south. Participation is open to all the federal and state agencies as well as NGO’s that have a responsibility for prescribed fire within their jurisdictions. Including partners and agencies outside the southern area.
Agency Administrators, that have responsibility for prescribed fire, will have a track of classes to enhance their understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Some of these classes will be intermixed with burn bosses and will help in facilitating the tough decisions and risk management discussions that should take place before a burn.
We have invited world renowned speakers and presenters, including Stephen Pyne, author and fire historian as the keynote speaker. The popular Tech Room has been expanded to include live presentations on UAS use, electronic simulation tables, and much more. The curriculum will cover mandatory classes for burn boss certification as well as numerous related electives. Classes and presentations will cover a variety of topics including growing season burning, risk management, burn plan complexity, liability and much, much more!
In the spirit of the Cohesive Strategy and Shared Stewardship we strongly encourage our readers to share this message with their employees, cooperators and partners that have an interest in prescribed fire.
Registration update: Who is WHOVA?
Finally, we are excited to announce the selection of an event management app to streamline and assist participants with the registration process, the WHOVA app. This app will facilitate information sharing, store presentations, have a website and social media options among many other features. You can download the app here: https://whova.com/web/rt_202011/ Please note that registration is not open at this time but you are welcome to download the app and browse around.
After downloading, use your email address when signing up in the app and choose a strong password, or sign up using a social media account. Once you’re signed up, you should be taken directly to your event! If you aren’t directly added to the event and are asked for an event invitation code when accessing the event, please type in this invitation code: rt2020 (Please do not share this invitation code with people who are NOT attendees of the event).
By downloading the app the Steering Committee will be able to contact you with email updates and information sharing. The app will be able to do real time polling, help you communicate with your peers and provide all the logistical information you’ll need.
We look forward to seeing you soon at Southern Area Inter-agency Prescribed Fire Refresher Training (RT-300) !
