Partner Webinar: The Future of Drought in Texas: What do Researchers and Stakeholders Need to Know?
September 2, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Host: National Integrated Drought Information System, Texas A&M University, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Presenter: Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas State Climatologist, Texas A&M University
Abstract:
Longārange water planning is complicated by factors that are rapidly changing in the 21st century, including climate, population, and water use. Climate projections indicate the latter half of the 21st century may be even drier in some parts of the United States than even the most arid centuries of the last 1,000 years that included megadroughts.
In this webinar, Texas State Climatologist Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon will discuss these drought projections and related climate factors for Texas, and some barriers to the use of these projections by Texas agricultural producers, large surface water suppliers, small groundwater management districts, and regional water planning districts.
