In fall 2011, the Southern Fire Exchange, University of Florida’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation, US Forest Service, and Conserved Forest Ecosystems Outreach and Research Cooperative (CFEOR) partnered to conduct a workshop and field tour titled, Landscape-scale Mechanical Fuels Reduction Treatment Effects on Fire Behavior, Fuel Loads, and Forest Ecology. After introducing their research, Jesse Kreye and Leda Kobziar led more than 40 participants through a series of field locations in the Osceola National Forest to discuss study results regarding effectiveness and impacts of mechanically shredding and burning understory shrubs and small trees in pine flatwoods.
