RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE SOUTHEAST PRESCRIBED FIRE TRAINING NEEDS SURVEY (2022)
Southeast Regional Cohesive Wildland Fire Strategy – Southern Group of State Foresters The Southeast Prescribed Fire Training Needs Survey was conducted in January 2021 to assess the state of prescribed fire training in the region and identify barriers, deficiencies, and areas for improvement. This webinar reviews highlights from the survey report, including results from the nearly 1,000 responses and recommended actions to improve training across the region.

EARLY IMPLEMENTATION OF THE US FOREST SERVICE’S SHARED STEWARDSHIP STRATEGY IN THE EASTERN UNITED STATES (2022)
This webinar summarizes findings from preliminary JFSP-funded research on the US Forest Service Shared Stewardship Strategy implementation in seven states east of the Rocky Mountains (AR, FL, GA, MA, NE, NC, TX). The project team shared the results of over 60 interviews with Shared Stewardship coordinators and leaders across multiple states in the eastern US.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING LEARN-N-BURN EVENTS
“Learn and Burn” workshops are an excellent way for private landowners and others to gain hands-on burning experience and knowledge from expert mentors. This webinar will provide some lessons learned from coordinating these events, and tips to putting one on in the future. Participants will be provided with a template checklist, examples of past agendas, ideas for potential partners and funding opportunities, suggestions on how to measure program impact, and successes from past events.

Jarod Blades reviews key findings from two large, multi-region studies of public perceptions of smoke from wildland fire funded by the JFSP, emphasizing the important points related to public outreach and communication.
Sarah McCaffrey presents findings from recent research on social issues of fire management with particular emphasis on the accuracy of various accepted truths about the public and fire management and the variables that actually are associated with approval of different fire management practices.
Cassandra Moseley, USFS, will discuss how suppression spending can help mediate negative impacts of wildfires, and explore factors that influence whether local businesses capture suppression spending.
OVERVIEW OF THE FACILITATED LEARNING ANALYSIS “FLA” PROCESS FOR SUPERVISORS, SAFETY OFFICERS, LINE OFFICERS, AND OTHERS
Steve Holdsambeck covers the foundational concepts of the FLA process and many of the more controversial FLA tenets. In addition, participants will learn about options for the types of review or investigation after an accident or unintended outcome and what to expect if they choose a FLA.
