See below for an announcement from the University of Florida IFAS Natural Areas Training Academy regarding an upcoming entirely virtual / online opportunity to take the NWCG S-131 course.

The Natural Areas Training Academy (NATA) will offer S-131 FIREFIGHTER TYPE I in January 2023

This course is presented in a 100% online/virtual format; both the online and live virtual trainings are required.

Register HERE starting December 14, 2022 at 10:00am EDT; early registration is available December 7, 2022 to participants who has previously graduated from one or more of the NATA Certificate Courses (contact NATA for details.)

This is NOT an entry-level course; it is leadership training for experienced firefighters. At a very minimum, participants must have been on 3+ burns/wildfires and completed S-130/S-190/L-180 (Basic Wildland Firefighter Type II) prior to this course. Most participants have many years of wildland fire experience. This course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning the objectives and class discussion. Topics include fireline reference materials, communications, and tactical decision making.

REGISTRATION FEE:  $85-$100

ONLINE COURSEWORK:  January 9-23, 2023; approximately 9 hours, to be completed at your own pace during the 2-weeks prior to the live training session (REQUIRED).

LIVE VIRTUAL TRAINING:  January 26, 2023; 1/2 day (4 hours) live virtual training via Zoom
