Description: Forest managers often struggle to meet restoration and fuel treatment goals in part because of the high cost of operations and the low market value of removals. It is frequently said that the value of biomass and small-diameter logs can generate revenue to reduce net costs, but in reality capitalizing on this possibility can be difficult and fraught with financial uncertainty and risk. This webinar synthesizes recent and ongoing U.S. Forest Service R&D studies focused on understanding industrial supply chains linked to fuel treatment. The emphasis is on tailoring forest operations, logistics and supply chain management more specifically to fuel treatments and their unique characteristics. Given the ambitious goals of initiatives like the Wildfire Crisis Strategy, leveraging the growing bioeconomy to improve the financial viability of fuel treatment will be critical to treating more acres at lower cost, and improving forest and wildfire management outcomes in the future. Following the presentation there will be time for audience Q/A with the speaker.
