NCPFC/CAFMS Annual Meeting Registration Now Open
Registration for the NCPFC/CAFMS Annual Meeting/Workshop is now available at: https://apfire.wixsite.com/
The annual meeting and presentations will be held August 18, 2021 in Morganton, NC at the Foothills Conference Center. This meeting will be hybrid, with both in-person and virtual options. A field trip will be held on August 19, 2021. The meeting will follow the most up-to-date state, federal and local Covid-19 guidance at the time of the meeting. The Coalition of Prescribed Fire Councils and the National Association of State Foresters just published the 2020 National Prescribed Fire Use Report. This latest report provides an annual snapshot of forestry and rangeland prescribed fire use by U.S. state and region. Starting with 2020, the report will be updated annually to capture the annual variations in prescribed fire use that come from weather and other factors. The 2012, 2015, and 2018 reports can be found here.

Recorded presentations are now available from the 2020 All Florida Virtual Prescribed Fire Council Meeting hosted by the Southern Fire Exchange, University of Florida, North Florida Prescribed Fire Council, Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council, and the South Florida Interagency Fire Management Council. The three Florida prescribed fire councils normally meet separately in the fall of the year, but due to the COVID19 pandemic, a joint virtual meeting was held.
Presentations addressed topics including wildland fire smoke and COVID-19 and lessons learned from Hurricane Michael. Dr. Stephen Pyne also gave a presentation titled Fire – The Other Contagion. The One Without a Vaccine.

Since Herbert Stoddard Northern Bobwhites and prescribed fire have been strongly connected. However, prescribed fire, bobwhite ecology, and local site conditions need to be aligned for optimal bobwhite population response. This talk will discuss the context of fire frequency, scale, and seasonality for bobwhite management and restoration.
