Did you miss the Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council meeting this fall? They had a fantastic lineup of presentations, including presentations by Rick Anderson (former Everglades National Park prescribed fire lead) and by prescribed fire horseback ignition expert Chris Schlageter. The Southern Fire Exchange worked with the Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council this year to host their hybrid meeting option for virtual attendees and capture their meeting presentations for archival. Check out the 2023 meeting YouTube Playlist or you can preview the presentations below.

PBA Research Presentation: “Over the Hills and Through the Woods: Social Capital in Prescribed Burn Networks”
Check out this recorded research presentation by Dr. Aaron Russell with the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center. Dr. Russell studied how prescribed burn associations (PBAs) in Oklahoma and North Carolina work and connect. This presentation could help those who work with PBAs to think about methods for strategically expanding and improving the organizations. Thanks to Laurel Kays for sharing this presentation! – Over the Hills and Through the Woods: Social Capital in Prescribed Burn Networks

This online symposium presented the latest advances in using soil moisture information to better understand and predict wildfire danger. Recent discoveries are revealing the potential for soil moisture estimates from in situ monitoring stations, remote sensing, and models to improve fire danger predictions and to advance our understanding of fire behavior.
This interactive symposium provided a forum to build connections between researchers and managers, to share relevant research in this area, and to identify ways to move forward with new research and end uses.
You can access recordings of all the workshop presentations here.
