The LA Ecological Forestry Center (LEAF), the SW LA Forestry Association, the LSU AgCenter, the LA Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF), and the LA Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF)will be having a school to enable forest landowners to burn their lands safely and legally. Topics will include fuels, burning techniques, proper tools, optimal weather conditions, smoke management, liability management, planning, fire behavior and more.
This training will begin the process of becoming LA Certified Burn Manager. The completion of five prescribed fires and their documentation will complete the process. The cost is $100. Class size is limited to the first 25 applicants. Please make check payable to SW LA Forestry Association, and send to LSU AgCenter, PO Box 609, DeRidder, LA 70634. This class will address all the essential elements of conducting controlled burns in coastal marsh habitats. Successfully completing the class along with burning experience is required for Prescribed Burner – Marshland certification by the La. Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
Who Should Attend: Coastal Marsh Landowners and Land Managers, Hunters & Trappers Who Assist with Controlled Burns, Anyone Interested in Using Fire as a Marsh Management Technique.

The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) has an immediate need for a full-time, term limited (minimum of 2 years) Forester to work in Louisiana. The preferred central location will be in proximity of Leesville, LA. This position will be responsible for completing forest management plans for private, non-industrial landowners in cooperation with conservation Partners including the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
